David Perrott has been performing in the fields of jazz and classical music for over 30 years. Originally from South Carolina, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in classical bass before relocating to pursue jazz studies at NYU. This culminated in Master’s Degrees in jazz performance and jazz history from NYU and Rutgers.

While pursuing music, David became passionate about hand tool woodworking. He developed skills building furniture and using traditional joinery techniques with saws, chisels and hand planes, which then piqued an interest in antique restoration. Repairing antiques while remaining true to the maker’s intent and aesthetic ultimately lead to David’s desire to work on musical instruments.

David has been a friend and long-term client of internationally acclaimed luthier Bill Merchant, a professional for over 42 years. Their rapport and David’s burgeoning skills as a woodworker dovetailed into David training with Bill as a luthier. David prides himself on continuing Bill Merchant’s legacy of expert diagnosis, tonal adjustments, and fine repair work.
